CATHOLIC CHARITIES ASSISTING FAMILIES IMPACTED BY RECENT FLOODING DISASTER

General Information

Historically, Catholic Charities’ role in disaster response has occurred during the recovery phase. Catholic Charities stays in contact with our community partners who act as first responders and assist with stabilization immediately following a disaster. In addition, Catholic Charities also stays in daily contact with the City of Fort Worth’s Office of Emergency Management, Texas 211, and the Tarrant County VOAD. Every partner has a role to play during times of disaster and with direction from our partners, Catholic Charities responds as needed.

2.      If the individual states they have already called the Red Cross and feel their needs have not been met, they should be referred to Courtney Motawni at ext. 3917. Courtney will serve as the Disaster Response Coordinator for Catholic Charities.

For Those Wanting to Help

Catholic Charities is acutely aware of the impact that disasters can have on individuals and families directly affected by disasters, as well as the effect these disasters have on the community at large. In times of crisis those in need turn to their communities to provide emotional, spiritual, and financial support, as well as help to meet basic physical needs, such as shelter and food.

There are many ways to assist our affected neighbors regain some sense of normalcy and stability.  If you would like to donate money or in-kind donations to be distributed by Catholic Charities to disaster victims, please visit our website at www.ccdofw.org . Parish Relations

The purpose of the Parish Relations program is to strengthen the relationship between Catholic Charities, Diocese of Fort Worth, Inc., and parishes throughout the Diocese. The goal is to assist and empower parishes and parishioners in fulfilling the Gospel call to service and promotion of justice by

a) helping them identify and implement ways to respond communally and in an organized way to social and individual needs, and

b) by engaging them as partners in the work of Catholic Charities.

Through 2007, this program will focus specifically on disaster response initiatives and will work closely with Catholic Charities’ Disaster Response Services program. The Parish Relations Coordinator will provide training and consultation to parishes within the Diocese on all phases of a disaster and will help parishes develop their own disaster response programs, both individually and in conjunction with Catholic Charities.

For more information please email Laura Sotelo or call at 817.534.0814.
