Assist ESL teacher in teaching refugees and immigrants English

photoWith possibly 30 students from approximately six different countries in classes, volunteers willing to assist in teaching English are always needed. Students are at varying levels, but all are excited to be here and eager to learn. Training is provided for all volunteers prior to volunteering.

Refugees flee to our country for safety. Upon their arrival, they have nothing with them to begin a new life. Volunteers are needed to begin the resettlement process, including but not limited to things such as kitchen set up, teaching basic life skills, budgeting education and various other tasks that are new to our refugees. It is recommended that a group, small or large, take on this project. Donations of household items are always welcome for this program.

Serve as a mentor to children, women and men

photoVolunteers serving as mentors would be working with the CARE program, which is a child abuse and neglect prevention program. Mentors help guide families in need with various issues that have been identified, as well as help children meet their academic potential.

Volunteers serving in this capacity would oversee children of refugees while parents attend various classes at Catholic Charities. A safe area with toys and books is used while in childcare.
